Jan van Campen
Jan van Campen studied Art History in Leiden. After working at an auction house for several years, Jan van Campen obtained his doctorate on the lawyer Jean Theodore Royer’s 18th-century collection of Chinese objects at Leiden University in 2000. Since 2001, he has been working at the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam as curator of Asian export art. He is interested in collection history and reception history of Asian arts and luxury goods in Europe. In 2015, he created the exhibition ‘Asia in Amsterdam’ about Asian luxury goods in the Netherlands in the 17th century, in collaboration with Rijksmuseum colleagues and the Peabody Essex Museum, Salem (MA, USA). For now, Jan has returned to his former love, Royer. He is also chief editor of the magazine ‘Aziatische Kunst’.
