Beschrijving

Dish on footring, spreading wall, brown rim. Originally unpainted, in the Netherlands in enamel over decorated in enamel colors and gold with a Chinese-style landscape. In the foreground a headland with a man on a bridge, to the right rocks, trees and a pavilion. To the left, chickens behind a fence, three standing figures and a figure in a cottage. In the background hills with a pagoda and a pavilion. The reverse is unadorned. The Dutch painter has made a special effort to depict a Chinese scene, adopting all kinds of elements from Eastern porcelain, for example, the motif of the man with the carrying stick over his shoulder, the composition of the landscape, the non-perspectival drawing of the pavilion on the right or the way the headland in front is depicted. In the process, there are also parts not quite understood, such as the rocks on the right that look like clouds. He has combined all these elements in his own, Western way, creating a chinoiserie.
