Small globular chamber pot on footring with spreading upturned rim. C-shaped ear with thumb-rest, domed recessed lid with a knob shaped as a reclining hare. Imari, decorated in underglaze blue, iron-red, green and yellow enamels with peony sprays. On the inside of the rim a karakusa scroll with single flowers. The hare has red eyes. The size indicates that this is not a normal chamber pot. It may have been used by children or as a vomit pot. It is a rare, finely painted example. Interestingly, the hare-shaped knob occurs on the lids of the more common blue-and-white chamber pots.
