Beschrijving

Small dish with firing-ring around the domed base, spreading sides. The base is raised in the centre. Decorated in underglaze blue. On the raised base a paddling duck and water plants, around the sides six groups of water plants. On the outside three ovals. The function of such small dishes and bowls with a raised sphere in the centre is unclear. They are too small to be used as a saucer for a ewer; above all, there is no space for the footring of such a vessel. The shape may be derived from a metal(?) example originating in India, Persia or the Middle East. Such objects may have been used for ablutions or as a shallow saucer for wine, the hollow in the base serving as a grip for the fingers.
