Round box on footring, domed cover. The inside is glazed. Famille verte, decorated in green, yellow, aubergine, iron-red and black enamel on the glaze. On the cover flowering plants near a fence within an underglaze-blue three-fold circle. On the sides of the cover linked flower sprays. Boxes are remarkably rare in famille verte. They were probably made primarily for export to south-east Asia, see the comments to cat. 23. The Van Diepen Collection has a comparable example of approximately the same size (fig.).
