Bowl on footring, spreading sides. Decorated in China in underglaze blue with a diamond-work band around the rim, and a blue line around the foot. Flowers and scrolls have been incised under the glaze. Overdecorated in enamel colours and gold with a rooster on a rock, flowering plants, a flowering prunus, roses and two quails. On the inside of the sides, insects and four flower sprays. Eating and drinking utensils of the Yongzheng period (1723–1735) that were decorated in subtle enamel colours with roosters, hens and chicks, have always been appreciated in The Netherlands. A similar piece may have inspired this decoration of a jaunty rooster. The original blue Chinese decoration has been respected and embellished with red and gold.
