Dish of saucer shape with a lobed rim, the sides impressed with two rows of petals. In a central, bracketed medallion, framed by ruyi heads and diapers, a bird on a rock among bamboo, flowers and insects. In the well two rows of petals with blue centres, the reverse with a scroll band around the foot. In the central medallion of this dish features the well-known bird-on-a-rock. This dish is on the basis of its curious border connected with dishes with a similar design in the cavetto, but only in the moulding. On those dishes the petal shapes are not emphasized by a cobalt blue colour. A dish of this type has been recovered from the Witte Leeuw (1613). The version with a decorated well is actually rather common and could, like the undecorated examples, be dated around 1600. Several related wares are in the Princessehof museum. A similar dish with a central medallion with one bird on a rock and two in the air is in the Santos Palace in Lisbon, a bowl in the Topkapi Saray in Istanbul has the same design in the well, encircling an eagle on a rock. This Princessehof dish was collected in Indonesia.
