Chinese and Japanese trade ceramics

Preface

This catalogue proceeds from unpublished research finished in 1992 by Barbara Harrisson, former director of the Princessehof museum and curator of Asian Ceramics.
Ms. Harrisson had included more than 800 objects in her research. In the written text of the present catalogue their number has been reduced to ca. 600. A further selection of 120 representative objects has been made for discussion in depth on the website.

I am very grateful for the support of my friends and colleagues in the Princessehof, particularly Willem Terlouw, curator of Asian Ceramics who was always there for discussions but sadly didn't see this study finished, Susan Groot, former assistant curator of Asian Ceramics who assisted me in taking photographs to work with and provided all kinds of helpful information, and Sarah Bosmans, assistant curator of Asian Ceramics who was a great help with corrections on the website. For the contents of this text I am entirely responsible.
