Kendi on a recessed, glazed base. The globular, moulded body with a narrow, upright curving spout attached either side with applied relief in the form of branches. The cylindrical neck with a rim shaped as a six-pointed star. The sides painted in six panels with various flowers growing from rocks and ribboned antiquities. The shoulders with a key-fret border and the neck with a bird on a rock and flowers. A pending petal border under the rim. The spout with stripes and circles suggesting wood.
This kendi is very refined, the potting is thin. The panelling follows the moulding. There are a number of these delicate kendis in western collections, notably also in the shape of a double gourd. A kendi of this shape was recovered from the San Diego (1600). Similar kendis with different decoration are in the British Museum and the Percival David Collection in London.
