Kendi on a short foot, the glazed base with grit. The ribbed, compressed globular body with an oversized mammiform spout, the cylindrical neck thickened at the mouth. Around the foot a lappet border, a broad band on the body left undecorated, the shoulder with ribboned emblems above a floral spray. On the neck a zigzag freeze with scrolls reserved white on a blue ground, the spout with flower sprays and emblems.
The freeze of large zigzags on the neck of this kendi also appears on a kendi in the Topkapi Saray in Istanbul dated to the middle of the 16th century. A dish in the British Museum produced in a minyao kiln and dated 1540-1566 by comparison to an identical dish recovered from the wreck of the Sao Bento (1554) shows a fluted band left undecorated in the well comparable to the band on the body of this kendi.
