Description

Dish of saucer shape with an out-turned rim on a channel foot ring. The base with the six character-mark of Kangxi. Painted in red, yellow and green enamels and black outlines on the interior with a octagonal bracketed medallion with scattered flower sprays, reserved against a diaper ground with flower heads. A scrolling lotus border in underglaze blue at the rim. The reverse with three flower sprays.

This attractive dish with its prominent bracket-lobed medallion is an example of the use of famille verte enamels in combination with an underglaze blue border. Dishes with such a border without the enamels are also known. The decorative design is forced into registers which is often the case in this group. Another typical feature is the diapered ground. Most of these dishes are marked with an emblem, the Kangxi mark is rather rare. The dish was collected in Indonesia.
