Bowl with rounded sides and flared rim, the base with a square seal mark in a double ring. Painted in red, green, yellow enamels, black outlines and underglaze blue bands on the inside with a peony flower in a central medallion, a peony and leaf border at the rim. On the outside a peony and chrysanthemum scroll and a lappet border around the foot.
This bowl belongs to the wares decorated in familleverte enamels. Its decorative style is seen on a group of wares that was presumably more popular in the Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern part of the world than in the West, where it is not very common. The scroll with the disproportionately large flowers makes the design crowded yet also has a simple charm. The group is well represented in the Topkapi Saray in Istanbul. This bowl was collected in Indonesia.
