Bowl with curving sides on a high footring. In the centre a stylized quatrefoil floral medallion encircled by six ornate palmette motifs in the well, a double ring at the rim. On the outside six palmette motifs, a zigzag and leaf border over blue at the rim.
This rather formal motif is to be found on all kinds of shapes ranging from dishes and bowls to bottles and ewers all of which are represented in the Topkapi Saray. Islamic connotations are obvious. The flatness of the palmettes is reminiscent of stencilled patterns. It has been suggested that South Indian textile design, traded by the Dutch at the time, or Indian metalwork, so-called Bridi ware are the sources of inspiration for the motifs.
