Jar of ovoid shape with a short neck and a wide mouth. The foot slightly flanged, the rim left unglazed for a cover. On the body, decorated in red, yellow, green, blue, and black enamels, a continuous river scene with hills, rocks, pines, a willow tree, a maple tree, pavilions and boats. The shoulder with an overlapping cloud border and bands, the neck with a hanging leaf border.
The painting of this sturdily potted jar is done in the Chinese Transitional style, as was usual on closed forms. The scene is taken from a known Chinese design. Jars with this design in various sizes are in several western and eastern collections.
