Description

Food carrier of cylindrical form in three circular segments, the slightly domed cover with a small loop handle. Glazed inside out except for the ledged rim. All parts decorated with a lotus spray, a chrysanthemum spray, a prunus spray and a peony spray. The cover with a lotus, a prunus and a peony.

This shape is obviously made for the domestic market. Food carriers of this type in other materials are still used nowadays in Japan. Such an object could have been taken privately to the West. The decoration of various flowers and leaves can be observed on a variety of other closed shapes.
