Dish with everted rim, the base with five spur marks. Encircled in the centre a landscape with a rock and peach sprays. On the well and the rim a continuous landscape with rocks, a banana tree, bamboo, and misty and swirl clouds. The reverse plain.
This is an example of a group of porcelains with a mixture of Chinese and Japanese styles. No longer a close copy of Chinese Kraak or Transitional wares, this dish shows a design that is Japanese in style. There is quite a difference between the delicate manner of painting in the central scene and the powerful swirls and bands of clouds. The banana tree features regularly on wares of the later 17th century. This dish was collected in Indonesia.
