High cup on a cylindrical stand and spreading foot, the concave base unglazed. The inside plain, on the cup a mountainous landscape with houses and trees, the stand with upright banana leaves, the foot with bands.
This stemcup shows a continuous landscape painted in various shades of blue under a smooth glaze. The style of painting with dark contours and circles suggesting the foliage of a tree is also seen on covered bowls, covered jars and brush pots in the Hatcher cargo (c. 1643). The deep, narrow form of the cup is rather rare and seems to have been introduced in the 17th century. It was probably modelled after a glass prototype.
