Bottle with globular body and a tall neck with flared rim. Decorated with four medallions with mountainous landscapes, lakes, pavilions and a human figure, linked by masks bordered by lappets. Wide flower scroll borders above and below. On the shoulder a lappet border, the neck with three tulip motifs and dots.
There are several objects that combine this type of western-style winged cherubs heads with Chinese elements like flower sprays or landscapes. A dish in the Portuguese National Museum in Lisbon bearing a Portuguese coat of arms dating from the second half of the 16th century has similar motifs. They are also found on an ewer in the collection of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and apothecary's pots in the British Museum and the Victoria & Albert Museum. As they also exist in combination with scenes from the Passion of Christ, it is suggested that the masks alone could have Christian connotations and objects thus decorated were intended for the Jesuit order.
