OKS 1976-1, Bowl and cover

Bowl with high, slightly flared, moulded sides and an unglazed rim, the cover domed with a ring knob. On the interior of the bowl a bird on a rock, the sides with four bracketed panels with hibiscus alternating with peaches, separated by pearl strings. On the outside in similar panels chrysanthemum sprays alternating with lotus scrolls, divided by knotted ribbons. On the inside of the cover a peach spray surrounded by four panels containing cloud-shaped cartouches with dots. The outside with a flower spray inside the ring knob and a ruyi border on the shoulder. On the sides in four panels, similar cartouches with butterflies alternating with lotus sprays, divided by knotted ribbons.

This type of bowl was already in the Ardebil collection before the inventory of 1611 was made up. They were also part of the Hatcher cargo (c. 1643) so they were produced for a long time. This example is carefully potted with moulded sides and refined decoration in a deep cobalt-blue, pointing at an early date. Covered bowls of this type decorated with figural scenes are also in the Ardebil collection. In the British museum is an example with panels with a grasshopper, a butterfly and lotus scrolls.
