Bowl, called kraaikop, with high, moulded sides and upturned, lobed rim. The interior with a bird on a rock encircled by six panels with peach sprays, flower sprays, and thorny branches, divided by narrow ones with beaded pendants. On the outside similar panels with deer, birds, bamboo, and flowers, divided by narrow panels with beaded pendants.
This type was made for a prolonged period of time as it was found both in the San Diego (1600), de Witte Leeuw (1613) and in the Hatcher junk (c. 1643). The bowls are decorated in various ways within the panels but a number of them has a continuous decoration on the moulded sides. The central medallion always shows a bird on a rock. The Topkapi Saray in Istanbul has quite a number of kraaikoppen. Bowls of this exact size with the same steep wall have been found in the Witte Leeuw, therefore a date for this example in the first quarter of the 17th century seems feasible.
