Description

Dish with a flat, lobed rim, the base unglazed. In a central, bracketed medallion bordered by a scroll diaper, two spotted deer on a rocky ledge under a pine tree. On the well and the rim, treated as a single space, eight ogival panels with pomegranates, flower sprays and antiquities, alternating with narrow panels with beaded pendants and diapers. On the exterior similar panels with grouped dots and lingzhi fungus.

Dishes of this size were called lampetschotels, basins, in Holland. The painting on these large dishes is usually very good. The design of light blue ruyi and scrolls reserved against dark blue surrounding  the central panel is unusual. Dishes like this one were copied in Delft. The Topkapi Saray collection holds several similar dishes in a smaller size.
