Dish of saucer shape with bracket-lobed rim, the glazed base with kiln grit. In a central medallion in underglaze blue, three ducks and a flying heron at a pond amidst bamboo and a flowering lotus plant. The well with a border in red enamels with green details of thinly drawn jewels suspended from half-flowers alternating with whisks suspended from beaded chains, and a border in red, green, turquoise, and black enamels of cloud-shaped medallions separated by flowerheads. The reverse with bands.
Contrary to the former dish (NO 994) this one has a central medallion in underglaze blue while the well is decorated in polychrome enamels only. In the Princessehof collection is a dish with a central medallion in underglaze blue and an undecorated well (GRV 1929-15), suggesting that it might be decorated in enamels at a later stage in a similar manner as this dish. The refined decoration of pendants and tassels suspended from threads painted with tiny dots is remarkable and could have been ordered by a customer from the Middle East. This dish was acquired in Indonesia.
