Dish with bent flared sides. The glazed base and the foot with kiln grit. On the interior, in a central medallion in a moonlit landscape, three ducks at a pond amidst rocks, a pine, bats, waterweeds, and a large lotus. The medallion encircled by nineteen panels edged by a bracketed line, ten with pine, chrysanthemum, bamboo, and peony sprays, separated by nine small panels with beaded pendants topped by flower sprays. The reverse with peach and flower sprays between bands.
The design on this dish is an imitation of Kraak porcelain dishes. The panelling on the rim is quite delicately painted with much attention to detail. Within the outlines two tones of cobalt-blue have been used. The dish belongs to group II. The decorator made a miscalculation in the width of the panels, not having enough space left for a final small one, a curious mistake probably caused by working under pressure. This porcelain painter was obviously not aided by some kind of stencil. Kraak examples for this dish with various central scenes are in the Santos Palace in Lisbon. The dish was acquired in Indonesia.
