Dish with rounded sides and flared rim, the glazed base and the foot with kiln grit, patches of grit on the sides. The interior with a central scene of two deer amidst birds and honeybees in a landscape with rocks, a pine tree, bamboo and grasses. The well with two pine trees growing from the centre, alternating with peach sprays. The rim with a continuous border of scrolling lotus. On the reverse peach and flower sprays between bands.
The cobalt-blue is applied in various shades and the painting is done within outlines, making the dish a representative of group II. Although the central medallion on this dish shows a common design taken from Jingdezhen Jiajing (1522-1566) examples, the border is unusual on Zhangzhou wares. The scroll is rendered in such a way as to suggest oval panels. Similar white-edged lotus flowers are found on a bowl in the Topkapi Saray dated to the 2nd half of the 16th century. The dish was acquired in Indonesia.
