Dish with rounded sides and flared rim. The foot and the glazed base with kiln grit. On the interior in a central medallion the ornamental character shou, longevity, against a background of groups of mountain peaks. Within the outlines of the character, set in white against a blue wash, three deer and two cranes. The well plain and the rim bordered by eight quatrefoil medallions with flowers, set against a background of various diapers. On the reverse between bands peach sprays alternating with cash emblems, below the rim six fruiting sprigs.
This dish belongs to the same group as the previous one with the deer (GRV 1950-4). The large Daoist character shou, the deer and the cranes are all examples of typical Jiajing iconography alluding to longevity, yet it is obvious that this sturdy dish was made in the Zhangzhou kilns. The border pattern was used in combination with a variety of central scenes. This dish was found in Indonesia.
