Chinese porcelain dish on a footring. Imported to Holland without a decoration. Decorated in Delft with overglaze green, yellow, blue, iron-red, black and some gold enamel colours, and fired in a muffle kiln. The decoration comprises blossoming branches by a rock, two pheasants and a tiger, motifs derived from Kakiemon porcelain. The rim glazed brown.
Wares decorated in Delft form a separate group. They were probably decorated by specialised Gold painters (Goutschilders), who were usually self-employed and were not connected to a specific factory. It is noteworthy that many such wares decorated in Delft incorporate Kakiemon-style motifs. Genuine Kakiemon was so rare that it was worthwhile manufacturing imitations such as this dish.
