Description

Small Chinese porcelain plate on a footring, with low, steep curved sides and a wide sloping rim with a scalloped edge. Decorated in underglaze blue. In the centre a toad with a Chinese man on its back swims through foaming waves (probably Liu Han and his three-legged toad). On the sides and rim eight lightly modelled panels with a fruiting branch (peach or pomegranate) or a flower spray. The modelled panels separated by vertical panels filled with groups of dots. On the reverse fan-shaped panels filled with groups of dots and narrow panels with a stripe.
