Description

Covered jar on a splayed footring, with a compressed oviform body and a short cylindrical neck. The half-domed cover with a flat, narrow everted rim and a globular knob on a short stem. Decorated in underglaze blue. On the footrim foaming wave motifs. On the sides four oval panels linked by small rectangular panels, surrounded by spiralling flower sprays. In the small panels a Chinese fisherman or two Chinese men sitting in a landscape. The oval panels respectively filled with a Chinese man sitting in a landscape; a young man offering a plant or flower to a Chinese man sitting in a landscape; two Chinese men standing in a landscape; two Chinese men sitting in a landscape, one of them holding a scroll in both hands. On the cover four flower sprays and four roundels containing a Chinese man in a landscape.
