An early Ming-dynasty (1368-1644) dish of extremely fine quality, decorated with underglaze blue floral motifs. In the centre pond plants bound together, surrounded by a floral motif around the rim.
This type of fine decoration on Ming porcelain served for centuries as a model for later porcelain decorations. Porcelain from this early period is recognisable by the fatty, glossy glaze, the slightly burnt greyish cobalt and the thick body.
